Work starting on Lawnswood roundabout

Preliminary work is due to start on the Lawnswood roundabout scheme. We've pasted below the main content of the letter that has been posted to residents who live around the roundabout.

It includes the timeline for the work and the times of day that work is expected to happen - this schedule is designed to try and make the work as non disruptive as possible.

We will keep you updated as much as possible about this work. If you're able to help us share these updates into your street WhatsApp group please let us know here - it'll help us spread information in the most timely way possible.

Thank you!

"The scheme seeks to improve safety for all users by bringing the roundabout under traffic signal control, and to make walking and cycling safer and more attractive by introducing new crossing facilities and segregated cycle tracks.

The design of the scheme is now complete, and the main contractor is expected to begin the main works in mid-2025, with completion in autumn 2026.  In advance of this, some enabling works are required and are planned to start on Monday 10th February, for approximately four months. This will predominantly consist of utility diversions and some landscaping/site clearance works.

Each contractor will require separate traffic management, as they are undertaking works in different areas around the roundabout. The project team will work with all contractors and Leeds City Council’s Network Management team to minimise impacts on local residents during this period.  Nevertheless, some disruption is unavoidable due to the nature of some of the works being undertaken.

Most of the work is likely to be undertaken between 9.30am and 3.30pm, using lane closures to create safe working areas, however more difficult areas may require nighttime working and full road closures. If this is needed, further correspondence will be sent in advance to provide details."
