We were very pleased that glass recycling collections started in Leeds on the 1st of August, this following on from other achievements in waste collection and recycling in Leeds.
Today, we announced that in 2025 (exact date to be confirmed) there will be food waste collections from the doorstep. Just like with glass, you will be able to put the food waste directly into your brown bin.
Of course, this means we will be delivering a year-round brown bin service. That's a big change, dealing with that common problem - trying to stuff the last of your leaves, grass, and other plant residue into the last brown bin collection of the year!
We know that over the last few weeks some bin collections have been difficult. We've really appreciated everyone's patience with this, and have worked closely with the refuse team to get the service improved.
Sometimes there are short term problems, but overall and over time our service is improving. That is thanks to long term investment since Labour took over the council, prioritising getting these key services right.
