Tonight we attended an amazing and very powerful screening of NYE, at Cottage Road Cinema - a Weetwood institution.
NYE is a play about the life of Nye Bevan, the founder of the NHS. Confronted with death, Nye’s deepest memories lead him on a journey back through his life; from childhood to mining underground all the way to Parliament.
From campaigning at the coalfield to leading the battle to create the NHS, Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan is often referred to as the politician with greatest influence on our country without ever being Prime Minister.
The play is a great reminder of how important the NHS is, and what life was like before it was created. The founding principles of the NHS must always be protected.
There are further live screenings of NYE at Cottage Road on Saturday 27 April at 1.30pm and Thursday 2 May at 7.40pm. Take a look at their website to book tickets.
If this production doesn't tell us how important the NHS is to all of us, nothing ever will!
