The RSPCA has just launched its Animal Welfare Manifesto for Local Government, setting out how councils across England can do more to protect animals—from family pets to urban wildlife.
Here in Weetwood, many of us care deeply about the wellbeing of animals! Lots of residents have pets, we’re lucky to have beautiful parks, and we often see foxes and red kites around.

The manifesto outlines practical steps local authorities can take, including:
Encouraging responsible pet ownership in rented and social housing
Supporting enforcement against cruelty and neglect
Including wildlife protection in planning and green space decisions
Promoting animal welfare education in schools and communities
As your local councillors, we’ll be looking at how these ideas could be championed in our
ward and across Leeds.
