Spen Lane road resurfacing in February
We've been told there will be essential road resurfacing works on Spen Lane , West Park at its junction with Butcher Hill, evening works only planned to start on 16 th February for 3 days. The layout of this junction and traffic movements means the council has no alternative but to close both these roads at the mini roundabout to carry out works safely and efficiently. To keep disruption to a minimum these works will be carried out in the evenings between 19:00 – 00:00

Latest Lawnswood update
Here's the first weekly update of the New Year: "Progress has continued in the first working week on the oversized pipework adjacent Weetwood Hall Hotel and installation of ducting, drainage and gullies in the roundabout centre. How's your street sign looking?
On one of our weekly street surgeries we noticed that the Darnley Road sign (fun fact, JRR Tolkien of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fame used to live on Darnley Road) was looking worse for wear, and a couple of our local residents agreed. It has now been replaced. How's yours looking? Graffiti or damage can be be rectified.

Green light on pothole repair
Take a look at this BBC article about how different councils are performing when it comes to the condition of their roads and how effectively they use the money to repair roads . Leeds is one of very few councils given the highest 'Green' rating. This is not a moment of self-congratulation, don't worry! Ultimately it's the state of our own local roads that matter to us, not how they compare to other places. But what this does tell us is that the council uses the money it has

And if there is a place where it's becoming a frequent problem we'd love for you to let us know. We can organise litter picks, organise clean up days like we did r

Grit bins and gritting
Last year we asked for your help identifying grit bins that needed re-filling , thank you to everyone that reported them. It will have paid off given the weather we're starting 2026 with. For the gritting of routes, certain roads take priority. You can see gritting routes, and grit bin locations, here . We've explained how gritting works across the city below. Apart from that, we want to share a big thank you to all the public spirited local residents who help spread grit on

Leeds is the UK's most generous city
This might not sound like a ward story, but it is. Firstly because we're convinced that the people of Weetwood are especially generous and make an outsized contribution within Leeds. Secondly because the Leeds 10k, half-marathon, marathon, and Santa Dash all run through Weetwood. Those events must make a massive contribution to our total, so well done to all of you for taking part - whether through cheering, donating, or running. " Leeds has officially been crowned the UK’s m
